Chromium Connector Setup

Connect browser captures to Liryn on macOS with a guided setup flow designed for real users, not Terminal commands.

Guided setup

About this setup

Two steps to connect your browser to Liryn.

The Liryn Connector is a lightweight native messaging host that bridges your Chromium browser and the Liryn app. Install the browser extension, set up the connector, and Liryn will automatically receive captures from your browser.

Step 1

Install and enable the extension

1

Install Liryn Capture

Install the browser extension from the store for your Chromium browser.

2

Open the browser's extensions page

Enable Liryn Capture and pin it if you want quick access from the toolbar.

3

Return to Liryn

Use the app's Extensions section to continue with connector setup and connection checks.

Step 2

Install the macOS connector

Download the native connector

The Liryn Connector is a small, signed macOS package that installs a native messaging host. Once installed, your browser extension and Liryn can communicate directly — no configuration required.

macOS 13 or later · Signed & notarized · Always the latest version

Step 3

Open the right browser page

Once the extension is installed, these pages let you enable it and confirm the browser-side setup.

Chrome

Open Chrome Extensions and enable Liryn Capture.

chrome://extensions

Edge

Open Edge Extensions and enable Liryn Capture.

edge://extensions

Brave

Open Brave Extensions and enable Liryn Capture.

Verify

Make sure Liryn is receiving captures

Open a page with a direct download or a non-DRM HLS or DASH stream.

Use the overlay button or trigger a supported download from the browser.

Confirm that the capture appears in Liryn as a new download draft or queued task.

Those browsers use sandboxed web APIs that cannot communicate directly with local desktop applications. The connector is a small macOS native messaging host that acts as the secure bridge between the browser extension and the Liryn engine.
Yes. Liryn's Extensions pane already links directly to this page. The next step is to make the connector installer available here as a direct download — once that's done, the full setup from extension install to connector install will happen in a single flow.
Make sure the browser extension is enabled and the connector is installed. If the app still shows no activity, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and confirm the connector binary has permission to run. Then reopen the browser's extensions page and try a fresh capture.
